Harry Gordon Steel Company's history can actually be traced back to the very early 1900's. The late Harry Gordon
immigrated to this country virtually penniless where he taught himself English and eventually moved from New York City to
Mount Sterling Kentucky. There he married, and began a dry goods store in the early 1920s where he specialized in the
sale of furs and overalls. Eventually, Mr. Gordon found his way into the scrap auto parts business, providing used auto
parts for early model cars. This business flourished in the 1930's, and progressed into a scrap metal business, and
the rest is history. Harry Gordon Scrap Materials remained in operation for 70 years until it’s closing due to
the retirement of Norman Gordon (2nd generation) in 1998. Harry Gordon Steel Company incorporated in 1958 and was opened virtually by chance. A customer owing the scrap
business money could not pay the bill. In lieu of payment, he traded some new steel to Mort Norris, one of the partners
in the business. Mr. Norris took the steel, sold it at a profit, and smiled. Realizing the opportunity for a new
business. Mr. Norris seized the opportunity, and Harry Gordon Steel was born. Presently third generation of the original family own and operate Harry Gordon Steel. Along with our extended
family of employees and vendors, we look forward to taking Harry Gordon Steel into the new millennium. We pride ourselves
in giving complete full service to our clients and contractors, and we enjoy a solid and honest reputation throughout of community.
The reputation is very important to us. In this day and age, there are so many companies that are owned by larger corporations. We at Harry Gordon Steel
believe in the personal approach to doing business, and that is why we take pride in being a family owned business with long-term
employees. When you call, you won't get a voice mail. You will get a friendly receptionist who will help you in
directing your call. When you come by, the same receptionist will be there to greet you warmly and efficiently.
There are many things we still believe in doing the old fashioned way, although we do have current technology incorporated.
This is the way we do business. There are some things that simply don't need to be changed. Harry Gordon's has dedicated employees who have been with us for many years. If you do business with us, you
will probably find that you will be dealing with the same person time after time. We take pride in keeping our employees
here; they are part of our family. It is our sense of pride and service that is with us today as in the early 1920's
and it has carried us for all these years. Pride, customer service, honesty and dedication are what the Harry Gordon
Steel family is all about.
